Show News

Our cats are registered and shown at CFA shows throughout the United States.  The Cat Fancy Association (CFA) is the largest feline registry in the world.  Our headquarters are in New Jersey and our Association licenses about 350 shows per year.  Our show season starts on May 1st. and ends on April 30th. in any given year.  Our association's website is www.CFAinc.org.  There is a great amount of information on this website, including educational information.

This past November at the International Show, the largest cat show in the United States, our SuSu was awarded highest scoring Birman in Premiership.  That is the class for spayed or neutered cats.  The show was in Atlanta.  It is difficult for the female of our breed to compete against the males but she won over the hearts of the judges.  SuSu is eight years old.  She also carries the title of Grand-Champion and Distinguished Merit Award.  Her picture is in Gallery one (1)

Right now we are showing a seal lynx female champion, hoping to grand her.  Her name is Feather in the Wind, we call her Patty.

And we are showing a seal lynx male premier, Last week we granded our Ed Eagle, we call him Harry, in Premiership.  Harry is now going to live with a wonderful family in Central Florida.  He is a delight to be around and to show and he will love his new home and family.  They will probably let him sleep in bed with them!  Good luck Harry, we miss you already!!!

At the end of this month we are going to bring out two blue lynx female kittens to the show ring.  One is a Lolly baby and the other is an Annie baby.  Their names are Whitesox Falling Rain & Whitesox Falling Waters.  We call them Lola and Falla, respectively.  We are looking forward to seeing them judged and hearing what the judges have to say about them.

Just as an aside, and for informational purposes, in Florida, we give Indian names to all of our lynx point kittens.  Just one of my "quirky" ideas.  And another curious thing, Birmans are given names alphabetically by year.  This is a breed thing and not my personal thing.  In the year, 2009, all of our names will begin with the letter "G".  Last year we were in the "F" year, hence the names Falling Rain and Falling Waters.  Cattery names always precede the cat's name.

You will notice in the Gallery, that some of our cats have been awarded a Distinguished Merit Award (DM).  This is the highest award a cat can earn.  This award is given to male cats who have sired 15 or more grand-champion off-spring.  In the case of a female, she is given the award for producing 5 or more grand-champion off-spring.  DM awards are a true measure of a quality breeding program.  We are very proud of our DM winners.

As long as we are talking about titles, to be awarded the title of Grand-Champion, a cat must defeat 200 other champions.  In the case of the Grand-Premier award, a cat must defeat 75 other premiers.

If you are planning on attending your local cat show, do not be afraid to ask questions of breeders and judges.  In fact many shows have Ambassadors on hand just to answer your questions.  You can find an Ambassador by looking for someone who is wearing an "Ask Me" button.  Karen is an Ambassador and serves on the Core Committee for this program.

We hope to see you at a cat show soon, come look for the Whitesox Birmans!!!!!!
